Spanish-English English-Spanish Medical Dictionary
A comprehensive resource for healthcare providers and healthcare students allowing us to break the language barrier we face often when trying to converse with Spanish-speaking patients. This is an indispensable resource as the book contains almost all health related terms you will come in contact with during the conversation between you the healthcare provider and the Spanish speaking client.
I highly recommend this book as a necessity for healthcare students and providers. This new edition provides faster and easier access to comprehensive medical terms, technological related medical terms, medical abbreviations; it also provides definitions, translations, tips on pronunciation, signs and symptoms of commonly occurring disorders seen in practice, and practical phrases used in the daily communication with your clients.
You also will receive access to the Point website featuring audio pronunciation glossary with Spanish audio, image bank, and appendices formatted as PDFs.
I think this dictionary is excellent! It is the most comprehensive medical Spanish dictionary I have found. It is an Excellent Tool for Translations. I have also noted the hospital Spanish interpreters using this book in their daily routine contact with Spanish speaking patients.
I love all of Laura Lippman’s books and was excited to get another great read from the author. In this book she explores childhood friendships and childhood secrets. The story goes back and forth from the late 70’s to current time. The story takes place in the woods around Dickeyville, a suburb inside of Baltimore, MD. They story is a tale of five children, Gwen, Mickey and the Halloran brothers, Sean, Tim and Gordon (aka Go-Go), they spend their summers exploring, far exceeding the boundaries of their parents’ permission to remain within the outskirts of the wilderness. The unity of five, Go-Go (Gordon) the youngest, following the older kids. What is so interesting is that she writes from her past childhood, making the story more believable. The characters are well developed. The story continues around a night filled with tragedy from a hurricane, the children often visited a cottage where lives a man with his prize possession a guitar, the children come to know him and share their stories. The story goes on to find that Gordon (Go-Go) has died from an accident or suicide in automobile accident thirty two years later, and the others are reunited at this sad time. Gordon’s past is filled with secrets, learning of his out of control ways and learning that he was the bad boy out of the three Halloran brothers. The story moves along in a steady pace and we then find that the others are surrounded by the loss of Gordon (Go-Go) and we find out that he has hidden the most worrisome of all the secrets of the group. The author does a great job in describing how the secrets have passed from generation to generation. Lippman has a gift in providing insight into how our past can come back to remind us that our previous ways in childhood can resurface and haunt us in our adulthood.
Antibiotic Resistance: Understanding and Responding to an Emerging Crisis
Antibiotic resistance is a critical issue for health care providers, misuse or overuse of antibiotics places individuals at risk of infectious diseases becoming incurable. The book starts off slow; however, the introduction is wonderful and explains the basics of how antibiotics work and why they fail. The chapters’ progress in depth exploring the DNA issues behind how bacteria are destroyed. The information provided in this book is presented in a concise and straight-forward manner, and is a necessity for all healthcare personnel. Being in the medical field, I feel that everyone would benefit from reading this book to enable individuals as patient’s to grasp why providers do not easily prescribe antibiotics, and the reason this is now becoming the focus current and future practice.
This story is a magical experience. It is a fantasy ride set high in the tree tops of a parallel world. This last surviving place is a mysterious world of people and creatures, who all go about their daily life secure in the knowledge and understanding of each other. Ark Malikum, the main character of the book, reminds me of Mario. He finds himself well and truly knee deep in the brown stuff, when he happens to overhear a plot to destroy the city. As a result, an action-packed adventure begins full of danger, discoveries and new found friends. This is a powerful fantasy adventure that is continued through an eerie magical read. Ark knows too much to stay alive and someone is out to kill him and in order to survive he must stay one step ahead of the game. This way, he can save the anciet world of Ravenwood. The author has penned a magical story full of adventure and mystery. A great read.
One Grave At A Time is the sixth Night Huntress book. Cat and Bones have just cemented their title as favorite couple of all time! When a series starts, it’s all about getting to the `in love’ part; there is plenty of overt passion and sexual chemistry floating around and when they find `love’, the couple often becomes boring. However, that’s not the case with Cat and Bones – their relationship keeps getting stronger as time goes on. I love how the author developed a natural progression of their wonderful relationship. This couple’s passion may be more covert , but it’s obvious to all that their fire burns bright! Their missions take more precedence now than their time together but it’s clear through every word or look between them that there will never be another for these two. Cat and Bones have a sexy and stunning relationship.
Having narrowly averted an underworld war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’ voodoo queen just keeps on giving–leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit. Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This is a great read and look forward to continue reading the series.
Surprising read, not at all what I was expecting. The book can be described as a horror, mystery , thriller, and fantasy. Loved the book, it was the type of book that I just could not put down. The writer leaves you wanting to know more and leaves you questioning if we ever really know or understand the truth. The story is one of Lisa and her disappearance. She had told everyone that she was going to the fairies world and would be meeting the Fairy King through a dream door. (Do not want to give away any spoilers, you will want to learn this by reading the book yourself). The author takes you on a fast paced ride and does not let go. I loved the book, after completing the book my daughter read it and she absolutely loved it as well, so much so that she ordered her own copy to keep.
Anne Rice’s Of Love and Evil, Songs of the Seraphim continues, the second in the new series of angels and assassins set in dark and dangerous worlds that is told in our time and in centuries past. Toby O’Dare, former government assassin , he is summoned by the angel Malchiah to fifteenth-century Rome to solve a terrible crime of poisoning and to uncover the secrets of an earthbound restless spirit. His objective is to calm this restless spirit. As the story continues Toby is soon reconnected with his own past. Toby is a post-traumatic stress disorder survivor from his childhood where his mother slaughtered his brother. Due to his past makes him perfect for his mission, a vigilante who dispenses justice; he is a time traveler, and he is set to rid the world of horror. You must read the first in the series (Angel Time, 2009). It sets the stage for this sequel.
I have always been a big fan of Anne Rice and own every book she has ever written, her Vampire Chronicles, the Witches, she is an amazing storyteller. She combines her Catholicism, her fictional takes on the Gospel, and her passion for the dark side. This is a must for all Anne Rice fans, and if you have never read Anne Rice this is a great new series to get started with.
