Afraid of the Dark by James Grippando is an intriguing fictional tale. A 16-year-old girl is murdered and her boyfriend is the prime suspect. Jack Swyteck who is representing the accused. While Jack’s role as lawyer was very appropriately written, I found some of his exceptional abilities as an agent to be less believable. The antagonist, known as “The Dark” created an evil theme. Other themes found include human trafficking, pornography, information technology, spying and torture, Afraid of the Dark, has it all, I found it very difficult to put this one down. I would lay it down planning to head to bed and then telling myself I would read just one more chapter, then one more. Grippando’s writing is well done and his characters are well developed and believable. If you enjoy storylines that are suspenseful, you will like this one. I highly recommend Afraid of the Dark to readers looking for a complex suspense novel. I look forward to reading more of his previous novels.
